Leadership

Nestor de la Cruz, MD, FACS, was appointed Co Director of the Center of Excellence for Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery in October 1,2009.  He is Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Laparoendoscopic and Bariatric Surgery in the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery.  Dr. de la Cruz is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS).

Jose M. Martinez, MD, FACS, has been Co-Director of the Center since December 2007.  He is Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Laparoendoscopic and Bariatric Surgery in the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery, and Chief, Section of Surgical Endoscopy at Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Martinez is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES) and active on the SAGES committee developing the Fundamental of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) Program for residents. 

Dr. de la Cruz and Dr. Martinez are committed to providing training, educational and research opportunities for nurses, residents, fellows and physicians in the multidisciplinary environment at the Center.
