Laparoscopic Colon Surgery Course

Course Description
This comprehensive program will provide participants with a thorough understanding of the current status of laparoscopic colorectal surgery.  Participants will be taught indications and techniques for laparoscopic colon resection. Lectures will include an overview of indications and perioperative considerations, as well as detailed descriptions of the technical aspects of laparoscopic colectomy. In addition, a dedicated talk on laparoscopic colectomy for cancer will be given.  Participants will view a live case via video teleconference and perform laparoscopic bowel resections in the animate lab.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the indications for surgery for both benign and malignant colonic disease
  • Understand the various surgical techniques and approaches to colonic surgery
  • Comprehend the current results for laparoscopic colon surgery, especially as they pertain to surgery for colorectal cancer
  • Review the key technical steps involved with colonic surgery
