Course Description
This course will address the controversies surrounding open and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and illustrate the advantages of different approaches and the options available for mesh choice, placement, and fixation.  Five expert surgeons in hernia repair will use a combination of didactic sessions, computer aided graphics, and live surgery to help the participant understand the key anatomical features of pelvic anatomy, surgical steps, and pre and postoperative management.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the indications and techniques for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair
- Review the indications and techniques for open preperitoneal hernia repair
- Discuss the alternatives for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair
- Discuss the current literature regarding the efficacy of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and open  
  preperitioneal inguinal repair.
